National Briefing | West: Order Against Union Is Lifted in California

April 24th, 2008 by

A judicial officer in Oakland on Tuesday lifted an order that the Service Employees International Union and its president, Andrew L. Stern, left, not stalk or harass officials of the California Nurses Association. The officer, Jon Rantzman of Alameda County Superior Court, decided that the nurses’ association did not provide sufficient evidence to justify the order that he issued on Thursday. In recent weeks, the union sent members to California to confront officials in the nurses’ group after its organizers campaigned in Ohio to undermine the service employees’ effort to unionize 8,300 hospital workers there. The service employees said their members were not stalking or harassing nurses’ union officials, but were exercising their free speech.
